From my earliest memories, I have been captivated by the beauty of that which surrounds us. The sunrise as it moves across a Mountainside or a Mockingbird singing its song for all to hear. The symphony of the trees and grass as they are blown by the wind. A river creeping around its’ bends or light fog just above the waterline. The amazing designs of structures in our cities and countrysides. We are highly blessed here on our little rock. At the age of nine I was on a cable car climbing up the Bavarian Alps, Oh my it was both scary and magnificent.
It is easy to take for granted the beauty and wonder around us. Nature as well as architecture has the ability to be plain or captivating. Though it may take on diferent forms, I think all of us can recognize moments of beauty when we see it. For me, engrained in my memory is the crisp cool morning that I was fishing in my float tube and chestwaiters at sun-up on a Texas river. The water was like glass. A quarter mile up river was a fly fisherman. It was about as perfect a morning as I could remember and then about 75 fet in front of me an eagle swooped down and snatched a white bass out of the river. It was breathtaking. Then the eagle dropped the bass. Instinctively it dove back to the water and picked the fish up and flew off into that crisp morning. That is an image forever printed on my mind! If only I had been able to capture that on film.
I remember when I first picked up a still camera and started capturing images. I loved snapping pictures with a Polaroid instamatic. many years later I was in college in Dallas, I became a radio DJ and also worked in Television as a broadcast and video cameraman. It was there that I honed my skills in photography. I learned to let the image speak for itself and to let it be as natural as possible. At the turn of the century, I began to experiment with Photoshop and strayed a little from my puriest attitude as I learned new veins of expression, some of which are in my digital images gallery.
If we are fortunate, in our lifetime we will experience many amazing things. people and places. Here are some of mine!
